Two electives will be offered Spring and Fall 2007 - limited enrollment. These online courses use the specially designed ¡A su salud! Spanish for Health Professionals course materials that were developed at UNC and published by Yale University Press.

Advanced Spanish for Health Care (for high intermediates)

Methods:

  • DVD delivers an engaging, video-based "soap opera" depicting real-life situations in health care settings, as well as interactive exercises.
  • The textbook/workbook provides additional practice exercises and grammar review.
  • The web provides a "virtual" classroom consisting of additional content, practice exercises and tools that allow students to interact with one another and with the instructor.
  • Weekly practice sessions include student conversation partners, telephone sessions with the instructor, and optional campus conversation hours. Focus is on oral communication skills.

Students are required to purchase:

  • ¡A su salud! Spanish for Health Professionals hard copy course materials, which include an Install disc (CD), two DVD-ROMs, and the Cuaderno (textbook/workbook), or
  • buy the new online version.

Note: You should not purchase the course materials until you are notified that you have been accepted into the course.

Language Skills Assessment Check:

Students interested in being considered for the course are required to complete the Language Skills Assessment Check. Instructor approval will be based on this assessment.

Technical requirements:

Students are required to have a computer with DVD capability that meet minimum technical specifications unless they choose to purchase the new online version.

Orientation session:

Students are required to attend an on-site, two-hour orientation session prior to the course start date.
